When overhauling an engine, it is sometimes possible to replace the original pistons with new ones of the same size group.  Cylinder honing is lightly machining the inside surface of the cylinder to a specific finish.  There is very little dimensional change in the cylinder, but the process provides the correct surface finish for proper break-in of new piston rings.

Cylinder Boring Service

Occasionally, it is necessary to replace the original pistons with new ones of a slightly larger size.  Cylinder boring is an actual machining process to remove up to .010" of material from the cylinder wall to make room for the larger piston.  This process includes deburring the ports as well as the correct surface finish for proper break-in of the new piston rings.
