The Type E gearbox is the similar to the Type C, but has a built in electric starter activated by a sprag clutch. The starter adds only 1.5" to the length of the Type C gearbox and allows the use of the standard recoil on the magneto end as a back-up starter. The cost of the Type E is less than a Type C and a magneto end starter system. It also weighs considerably less at 24.7 pounds.
